DynamicCurriculum

All students are required to take Algebra I and Geometry, and they take an end, of course, STAAR exam in Algebra I. Other math courses students take depend on specific graduation plans and endorsements.

Algebra I

Students develop a foundation in understanding the concepts of functional relationships, number and operations, and proportionally fundamental to algebra.

Concepts and activities include:

  • Exploring linear, quadratic and exponential functions through multiple representations and their related transformation, equations and solutions
  • Connecting functions and their associated solutions in mathematical and real-world situations
  • Using technology to collect and explore data, and analyze relationships
  • Generate and solving linear systems with two equations and two variables
  • Creating new functions through their transformations

Geometry

Students investigate concepts covering coordinate and transformational geometry; parallel and perpendicular lines on the coordinate grid as well as their algebraic equation; logical argument and constructions; proof congruence; similarity, proof and trigonometry; two-dimensional and three-dimensional figures; circles; and probability.

Concepts and activities include:

  • Connecting Algebra I concepts to Geometry
  • Developing formal constructions using a straightedge and compass to illustrate logical arguments
  • Using deductive reasoning to justify, prove and apply theorems about geometric figures

Algebra II

Students extend their knowledge of quadratic functions; exponential functions and related systems. Students also learn about logarithms, square roots, cube roots, absolute values, rational functions, and related questions.

Concepts and activities include:

  • Connecting functions to their inverses and associated equations and solutions in mathematical and real-world situations
  • Learning more advanced concepts of data analysis, numeric methods, and algebraic methods

Pre-Calculus

This course focuses on the analysis of functions to prepare students for calculus. Students build on Algebra II concepts to work with trigonometric functions, parametric functions, sequences and series, and limit of functions. This course strengthens the conceptual understanding and mathematical reasoning used when solving and modeling mathematical and real-world problems.

Concepts and activities include:

  • Working with functions and their multiple representations
  • Using multiple strategies to analyze complex situations
  • Using technology to develop understanding, make connections between representations, and devise methods to solve problems

Advanced Quantitative Reasoning

In this course, students develop and apply the skills needed for college, careers, and life. Students apply previously learned high school mathematics concepts as they prepare to become productive global citizens.

Concepts and activities include:

  • Developing and applying numeric reasoning, planning, and communication to make decisions and solve real-world problems
  • Exploring concepts of probability, finance, statistical analysis, mathematical selection, and modeling using principles of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and discrete mathematics and graph theory.

Additional mathematics courses are offered, as well as several Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
