Dynamic Curriculum
Language Arts
Your child will discover the distinguishing features of letters as well as the connections between sounds and letters. Your child will understand the concepts of left-to-right writing and language patterns in simple texts.
Topics and activities include:
- Reading and rereading a variety of books, as a class and independently
- Decoding words using relationships between letters and sounds
- Learning to describe what they have written and drawn
Mathematics
Math concepts may seem abstract at this age. We translate abstract concepts for your child by comparing them to real world experiences. Concepts and activities also include:
- Recognizing numbers and counting sequences
- Making connection between quantity and number
- Solving basic addition and subtraction problems
- Understanding and identifying characteristics of objects that can be compared
and measured - Understanding and applying concepts of financial literacy
Science
Your child will conduct classroom science investigations to seek answers to questions.
The goal is to observe patterns and properties of natural and man-made objects. Your child also will examine the basic needs of living organisms in the environment.
Topics and activities include:
- Observing and describing daily weather changes and seasonal patterns
- Discovering the difference between nonliving and living things, as well as examining basic needs and structures of living things
- Observing and recording properties of matter and how materials change
- Exploring the ideas of motion and energy
Social Studies
The study of self, home, family, classroom and the community is among the topics covered in Kindergarten-level social studies.
Topics and concepts include:
- Basic concepts of place and geography
- Basic human needs and ways people meet those needs
- Purpose of rules and the role of authority figures in school and home
- American customs, celebrations, and symbols that represent American beliefs
- Decision making, problem solving, and independent thinking skills
